Today the US House moved forward a package of bills in the Protecting America’s Wilderness and Public Lands Act, which would protect millions of acres across the west, including 400,000 acres in the Colorado Outdoor Recreation Economy (CORE) Act. The Wilderness Society applauds House passage of H.R. 803, which builds upon legislation previously passed in the 116th Congress that also includes the Grand Canyon Protection Act, the Colorado Wilderness Act, and provisions for areas in California and Washington. H.R. 803 is a public lands package of eight bills spanning 2.7 million acres and more than 1,000 miles of Wild and Scenic rivers.
The following statement on the CORE Act is from Jim Ramey, Colorado State Director, The Wilderness Society:
“It’s fitting to see the CORE Act advance quickly this Congress, and that swift action is reflective of the strong support the legislation enjoys across Colorado. Communities have worked together for decades to shape the CORE Act into a broadly supported bill that bridges political divides. To help reach our nation’s goals of protecting 30% of our lands and waters, we must now work to get this bill through the Senate and to President Biden’s desk.”
