Fmr congressman will need to earn 50 votes from Senate for confirmation

WASHINGTON D.C. (March 4, 2026) - The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee voted to advance Steve Pearce as the next director of the Bureau of Land Management.

In response to the news,  Jordan Schreiber, director of government relations at The Wilderness Society, made the following statement:

“The American people want to keep public lands in public hands and want them managed for future generations. Nothing about Steve Pearce's troubling record or performance in the hearing suggests he wants to do either. It's disappointing that one side of the aisle in the Senate committee ignored the public and allowed his nomination to move forward. The full Senate should reject it."
