Virtual event highlighted three landscapes facing destruction

Public lands are a stronghold against climate change, a cultural lifeline to Indigenous peoples, a home to wildlife and a breath of fresh air for communities—and yet they are in great danger.

On Wednesday, Sept. 1, we co-hosted a screening and panel discussion with partners of Patagonia’s film Public Trust. The virtual event explored the most pressing threats to three beloved public lands: Bears Ears National Monument, Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. From a toxic mine to oil drilling rigs, destructive developments could permanently scar these landscapes, their wildlife and communities.

A subsequent panel discussion focused on these controversial development proposals and how we can stop them. Panelists include adventure advocate Amy Freeman, Eamon Davnie of Kids for the Boundary Waters, Representative Jamie Becker Finn and our very own Ben Gruel of the Wilderness Society.
