Wilderness Society statement on introduction of 21st Century Conservation Corps for Our Health and Our Jobs Act

A bill introduced by Colorado Congressman Joe Neguse could ensure Congress’ next round of Covid-19 stimulus investments include much needed support for struggling outdoor businesses and organizations that would engage young people, veterans and volunteers to make our communities fire-safe and address the maintenance backlog on public lands.

The 21st Century Conservation Corps for our Health and Our Jobs Act could play a pivotal role in helping our nation recover from the Covid pandemic, but will also have significant benefits for the long-term health of parks, forests, waterways, and lands from East to West.

The following statement is from Drew McConvilleSenior Government Relations Director for The Wilderness Society:

Communities across America are looking to Congress to find ways to recover from the economic impacts of Covid-19 and the 21st Century Conservation Corps for our Health and Our Jobs Act could be one of the best ideas we have seen on the table. This is a bill lawmakers can rally behind and we have high hopes these investments are included in the next round of stimulus funds to rebuild our economy.

“Our nation’s forests and public lands and waters play a critical role in our nation’s economy and the health of our communities. The bill puts people back to work restoring our forests, building parks in communities with the greatest need, and engaging young people, veterans and volunteers in the stewardship of our most treasured natural resources. Looking to our public lands as part of the solution are the kind of forward-thinking ideas we need at a time like this in our nation.”
