Strong picks announced for key Interior posts

Key Interior picks announced

Today, the White House announced plans to nominate four leaders for various posts at Interior, including Obama administration Interior veteran Tommy Beaudreau to be deputy secretary and Shannon Estenoz for assistant secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks. The positions require Senate confirmation.

Jamie Williams, president of The Wilderness Society said:

“Today’s announcement is welcome news for the nation’s public lands. These four leaders will play an important role in driving forward the agenda laid out by President Biden and Secretary Haaland to manage the public lands in the public’s interest. 

“For deputy secretary, Tommy Beaudreau is a strong pick. As a leader at Interior under President Obama, he made it a priority to advance conservation, embrace climate science and build meaningful relationships with sovereign tribal nations. Mr. Beaudreau knows and understands the importance of ensuring Interior decision making benefits all people from every corner of society.

“A president deserves to pick a qualified team to implement his agenda, and we urge the Senate to quickly approve these important posts.”

According to a White House press release, the nominees are:

  • Tommy Beaudreau, Deputy Secretary
  • Shannon Estenoz, Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks
  • Winnie Stachelberg, Assistant Secretary for Policy, Management, and Budget
  • Tanya Trujillo, Assistant Secretary for Water and Science
