Controversial BLM nominee withdrawn by White House

News reports today suggest that controversial BLM director nominee William Perry Pendley will have his name withdrawn from consideration. Conservation, social justice, and Indigenous leaders as well as the entire Senate Democratic caucus had denounced Pendley and the nomination.

Dan Hartinger, government relations director for The Wilderness Society said:

"The White House is throwing in the towel on a person who has no business managing our nation’s public lands. Mr. Pendley's radical views should have disqualified him from any senior position in government. Unfortunately, the Trump Administration's decision to withdraw his nomination still leaves him in charge in an acting capacity. The man is unfit and unconfirmable, he needs to be escorted out the door of the Interior Department.”
