Connect with Mariah

Mariah joined The Wilderness Society in 2023 as the Director of Research, based out of Bozeman, MT.  Before coming to TWS, Mariah served as an Associate Professor in Integrative Biology at Michigan State University, where she still maintains a lab and research program, aimed at strengthening research and conservation connections.

Mariah’s research focuses on using field studies combined with molecular data to understand the ecological and evolutionary processes that generate and maintain biodiversity. She works to apply this understanding to address pressing problems in the conservation and management of species, with a focus on aquatic systems. She has published more than 40 research articles in high-impact journals, including Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment, Bioscience, Molecular Ecology, and others. You can see her full publication list here: https://meeklab.com/publications/

Mariah received her PhD at the University of California, Davis, was a David H. Smith Conservation Research Fellow at Cornell University and was named the Society for Conservation Biology Early Career Conservationist in 2020.
