Today, The Wilderness Society issued a statement in response to President Biden’s State of the Union Address.
The Wilderness Society President Jamie Williams said:
“Tonight, we have much to celebrate and build on. In addition to milestones like securing historic climate legislation, establishing the American Climate Corps and designating several new national monuments, the Biden administration is also leading several critical agency efforts that constitute a comprehensive shift toward a holistic conservation, climate and community-centric approach to managing public lands.
“From the Public Lands Rule to the Western Solar Plan to the first-ever nationwide policy to protect old-growth forests, President Biden has created the opportunity for us to make public lands part of the solution to our biggest conservation and climate challenges, and ensure equitable access to the benefits of public lands for all of us.
“We’re heartened to see the Biden administration embrace the role of public lands in creating a fairer, more sustainable future. This is the leadership that our communities expect and the actions that will protect people and places today and for generations to come.”
