Legislation would reestablish the U.S. as a global leader on climate change

This week, the House will take up H.R. 9, The Climate Action Now Act, which would commit the United States to remaining in the Paris agreement and require the Trump administration to come up with a plan to meet the agreement’s goals within 120 days of enactment. The legislation would also prohibit the Trump administration from using any funding to formally withdraw from the agreement.

In response, The Wilderness Society released the following statement from Jenny Kordick, Advocacy Director for the Energy and Climate Campaign:

“While the Trump administration continues to put our climate at risk by selling out our public lands to fossil fuel interests, an overwhelming majority of the public supports taking bold action to prevent the worse effects of climate change from happening.

“We applaud House members for taking action on behalf of their constituents and look forward to helping ensure our public lands help meet these climate targets for future generations.”
