Today, the Bureau of Land Management announced they will not be holding second quarter 2021 lease sales, as part of the Interior Department’s ongoing review of the federal oil and gas leasing program.

In response, The Wilderness Society released the following statement from Senior Staff Attorney Ben Tettlebaum:

"We applaud BLM's decision to continue the pause on oil and gas leasing by exercising its authority not to hold these lease sales. Fixing this broken and outdated leasing system is essential to reducing the significant amount of fossil fuel emissions coming from public lands. A leasing pause gives the Biden Administration a critical opportunity to chart a new path - one that no longer prioritizes the oil and gas industry over everyone else."
