About the Ansel Adams Award

The Wilderness Society’s Ansel Adams Award is presented to a current or former government official who has shown exceptional commitment to the cause of conservation and the fostering of an American land ethic. The first award was given to Ansel Adams in 1980. Since then, former recipients include President Jimmy Carter, Vice President Al Gore, Senator Maria Cantwell, CEQ Chair Katie McGinty, Congressman John Lewis, Chairman Raúl M. Grijalva and Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi.
