Mike joined The Wilderness Society team in the summer of 2026. An East Coast native, he migrated to the Bay Area in 1991 to join an ancient forest protection campaign with Sierra Club and Forests Forever. Believing stewardship is the truest form of advocacy, he later joined the Ventana Wilderness Alliance as a volunteer and fundraiser, before eventually being promoted to executive director.
In 2021, Mike moved north to be closer to the Klamath Mountains and pursue conservation and stewardship projects with Smith River Alliance, Bigfoot Trail Alliance, and Resources Legacy Fund. An avid naturalist and incorrigible plant nerd with a B.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from UC Santa Cruz, Mike spends his free time exploring wild places with his wife Gabrielle and cattle dog Juniper.
