Axie serves as our Interim Director, Designation Campaigns.  She joined the Wilderness Society as our National Campaigns Senior Manager in December of 2022.

Before joining The Wilderness Society in 2022, Axie worked as a professional storyteller and state government advocate. In 2019, she founded the New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division under the Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham administration. She crafted the office's efforts to increase equitable outdoor access for young people, protect New Mexico's lands and waters, and support the outdoor recreation industry. Before that, she led Outside magazine's digital business as the Digital Editorial Director.

She has always revered nature, thanks in large part to a childhood spent outside skiing, camping, biking, and exploring the Colorado Rockies. Axie spent four years in Illinois to earn her degrees in Journalism and Spanish at Northwestern University, where she also served as president of the school's collegiate road racing team. After graduation, she immediately moved back West, where she continues to seek out adventure (and competition) outside. She lives in Valdez, New Mexico, with her family.
