Jennifer currently works to ensure that the Rocky Mountain Front is protected by helping local people – ranchers, business owners, community leaders, tribal members and others – understand and apply their power to influence politics.
As Outreach Coordinator, she leads the campaign strategy and implementation by developing local support and working with a range of stakeholders in the area. She is generating strategic analysis and information to help frame media coverage about the place, threats, values and local people as a tool to build momentum and consensus to support our conservation goals.
A biologist by training, Jennifer brings considerable experience on campaigns around Western issues. Growing up in Berkeley, California and on her grandparents' ranch in the central Oregon's Twickenham Valley sparked Ferenstein's passion for the outdoors.
She has worked in a variety of roles, including tracking and studying golden eagles, working as the Montana state auditor’s advisor on environmental issues, and teaching conservation through hands-on activities such as working to pass environmental-protection laws. She has served on the national Sierra Club board for six years and was twice elected the Club's president.
She has a Bachelor of Arts from Reed College in Oregon and a Masters of Science in Environmental Studies from the University of Montana.
