The steep granite cliffs of Unaweep Canyon rise just six miles outside of Gateway, Colorado. This is an area of dramatic ecological transition, from desert to aspen-spruce forest. The 39,039-acre roadless area includes the deepest and most dramatic portions of Unaweep canyon, reaching depths of 2,000 to 3,300 feet.
