Troublesome is one of the few areas that lie mostly on lands managed by the U.S. Forest Service. Rich with wildlife, Troublesome is home to large elk herds that calve and spend their summers and winters in this area of abundant grassy meadows and clean water. Over 50 miles of trails exist within this 119,615-acre roadless area. The trails provide a wide array of dispersed recreational activity including hiking, horseback riding, backpacking, ski touring, fishing, hunting and nature study.
