National Wilderness Preservation System Displays Available through the Arthur Carhart National Wilderness Training Center

In 2004, the Arthur Carhart National Wilderness Training Center developed several displays on the National Wilderness Preservation System (NWPS). The displays convey information about the 1964 Wilderness Act, and the benefits and threats to wilderness. These displays are available upon request on a first come, first served basis for agency-sponsored events with payment of shipping.

The display was recently featured at an event in Warren, PA, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birthday of Wilderness Act author Howard Zahniser. Mrs. Alice Zahniser, Howard's wife, was in attendance along with other members of the Zahniser family and Zahniser biographer, Mark Harvey.

To reserve a display or to see if your group's event qualifies to use this wonderful display which includes numerous photos depicting the diversity of the NWPS from all 4 federal land management agencies, activities to be enjoyed in wilderness, and information about the 1964 Wilderness Act, contact: Shirley Chase, Arthur Carhart National Wilderness Training Center, 406-243-4682, 406-243-4717 (fax) or schase@fs.fed.us.
