Outreach Week Highlights Expansion of National Landscape Conservation System During the week of June 5th, 2006, more than 60 conservationists traveled to Washington, DC, to participate in the National Landscape Conservation System Outreach Week. Highlighted in their coalition discussions and meetings on Capitol Hill were the current opportunities to expand the Conservation System -- specifically a number of pending bills that would designate Wilderness Areas, Wild and Scenic Rivers, National Conservation Areas and other special places managed by the Bureau of Land Management.

Former Vermont Governors Support Wilderness Designation In early June 2006, four former governors of Vermont, Philip H. Hoff, Governor 1963-69, Thomas P. Salmon, Governor, 1973-77, Madeleine M. Kunin, Governor, 1985-91, and Howard B. Dean, Governor, 1991-2003, sent a joint letter in support of wilderness designation to Vermont’s congressional delegation, Senators Patrick Leahy and James Jeffords and Rep. Bernard Sanders.
