On May 19, 2004, the House Resources Committee unanimously approved a revised version of H.R. 2909 (Utah Test and Training Range Protection Act) which would designate nearly 100,000 acres of land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in western Utah as the Cedar Mountain Wilderness.
After months of speculation, Representative George Nethercutt (R-WA) announced on May 14, 2004, that he supports protection of the Wild Sky Wilderness and pledged to get legislation passed that would finally protect the area.
