The Wilderness Society is a national, non-profit conservation group dedicated to preserving wilderness and wildlife and protecting America’s prime forests, parks, rivers, deserts and shorelines.

The Mid-Atlantic Regional Program has four major goals:

  1. To develop a network of wildlands in the Eastern Forest (WV, MD, PA and DC) which would include the Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River Watersheds as well as the forests of the Appalachian Highlands.
  2. To create a dynamic coalition of groups working to protect wild places and wilderness.
  3. To educate the public and government decision makers about the importance of addressing land protection issues on the Eastern Forest from a “network” or “watershed” perspective.
  4. To identify wilderness opportunities for the Monongahela National Forest in WV and the Allegheny National Forest in PA.

The Mid-Atlantic Regional Program works with numerous grassroots and local organizations to promote and expand public support for these issues.
